I love what Wes Stafford of Compassion International says: “The opposite of poverty isn’t wealth. The opposite of poverty is enough.”
So the question is … What is enough?

Since I got back from Haiti last month my idea of enough has been blown out of the water….here is an example:
I just got back from a trip to an amusement park (King’s Island) where I went as a leader for out Student Ministry. We had a great day at the park, then we drove home. We live about 3 hours north of the park so we had a ways to go. We got about 1 1/2 into the trip and hit some traffic. We sat on the highway without moving for 1 hour then another leader decided to figure out what was going on. He talked to some semi drivers and found out we were in for another 4-5 hour wait. Luckily we only had a small group of us, there was only 12 of us…but 6 hours stuck in stand still traffic until 4 AM with a group of high school students that smelled like…..well let’s just say it smelled……about killed me. I was really at the end of my rope.
I was so pleased to have a friend of mine here from Haiti who was our interpreter while we were down there last month. I noticed he was pretty much asleep for the whole ordeal on the high way. When we talked about it the next day and I was saying how sorry I was for the whole thing he said, “In Haiti if your car was stopped like that you might be shot or killed or robbed, but here in the US, that won’t happen. I felt so secure because I was in the US so I could sleep.”
Wow, nothing like putting your ridiculous problems into perspective.
My idea of enough: a bed, air conditioning, pillow, my husband, and peace and quiet.
His idea of enough, feeling secure.
I am still learning and sure I will be forever that my idea of enough is ridiculous.
