Change. People love to hate it.
Sometimes change is good. Add a new chorus to an old hymn … and it totally takes on a new great life for me. Repainting our family room made it feel all cozy and wonderful. New cuts and color ever 6 weeks keeps me from getting bored with my hair.
Sometimes change is bad. Remember New Facebook vs Old Facebook? Remember how upset people got about it. I for one can’t even remember old Facebook and like the new one. We changed Roxy’s dog food by accident once … bad. It took “stinky bulldog” to a whole new level.
And sometimes change is down-right ugly. Joel enlightened me of one of the most hideous cases of change I’ve ever heard of: The filming of the new movie Pride and Predator. Oh my gosh … this is horrible. This new adaptation of my beloved Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice “veers from the traditional period costume drama when an alien crash lands and begins to butcher the mannered protags, who suddenly have more than marriage and inheritance to worry about.”
Really?! Really?!
You’ve got to be kidding me!! I’m all for a well done remake or adaptation. I loved the Hollywood version. Loved Bridget Jones’ Diary. Loved the Bollywood version, Bride and Prejudice. But this is too much.
Then Tiff told me about Pride, Prejudice and the Zombies which is being released in May. The worst part is that it says the book is written by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith. Now, I hate to speak for Jane Austen … but I’m thinking she wouldn’t want her name on such appalling book!
I am mortified!! Thoughts?

These are two examples where change without direction or good motives leads to something much worse than before. You’ve gotta wonder about the brainstorming session behind this: “what are two completely opposite genres that we could throw together just for a laugh and see who’ll watch it?” “I dunno, how about killer aliens and Jane Austen?” “That’s brilliant!”
My suggestion for the next remake: Jane Austen’s “Emma: Vampire Slayer.”
I think Pride and Prejudice just got really interesting! Just Kidding!
Wow, I don’t think there is anything I can say about this!
Oh Kim … you wound me with your Pride and Prejudice slam! I’m going to hog-tie you and make you watch it no less than 50 times with me!
Sadly, Joel … as much as I love Emma (obviously named my daughter that) I could probably be sucked into seeing “Emma: Vampire Slayer.”
I can honestly say that I have never seen the movie Pride and Prejudice nor have I read the book! I know what you may be thinking Lori, “Are you serious?” In the past two years, I have become an avid reader and I just starting to expand my horizons in different reading genres. However, they way you talk about about Pride and Prejudice I would have to say by the new rendition of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies would be detrimental to any fan. I am really sorry, how could they do that to their number one fan. My all time favorite book is “To Kill a Mockingbird!” Both my husband and myself share the love for that book, so if there were to add some weird thing to make it the same but different, I would feel the same way.
All I can say is “YIKES!!!”
Ok .. I’m going to have to have a giant Pride and Prejudice party at my house and make all of you who haven’t seen it fly in so that we can watch it together. I’m sure it is even better with my commentary and sighs of contentment!
