In Vegas, there are quite a few Snow-birds. Those people who live in places like Chicago in the summer and Vegas in the winter. They follow the great weather. It is really a pretty sweet deal.
Most of us don’t have that fabulous luxury, though. My brother lives in Chicago. I call him every winter to rub in the fact that we are enjoying 60-70* weather, while he is freezing his booty off. He, however, calls me every summer to throw our 115* days in my face.
I, for one, will take our 3 months of hideous hot over his 6 months of misery any day. He will take his 6 months of freezing cold to get to watch the Cubs … but that is a side issue.
Here is the “What’s Your Flavor” question this week:
If you had to choose: Vegas summers or Chicago-style winters?

Chicago! I went one summer and fell in love (and it was hot). That is soo not me. I hate heat, and I’m probably the only person who gets excited about snow (another reason to like Chicago). We just don’t get enough of it here. I’m like the polo bear who hybernates in the winter. Only difference is I would be hiding during the summer. When its hot and the sun is out, I retreat to the house and my air conditioner.
I complain about the south Texas heat and humidity but I hate the snow and ice, so I’ll stay here where we had 2.5 days of winter a year!
I think I’d take the Chicago winters. I like experiencing all seasons and have missed snow since we’ve moved here to Richmond. By the way, I’m originally from Illinois (So. IL).
Chicago! I live in MI so I am good with the cold… I would rather be cold than hot. Not to mention I happen to think chicago is thee greatest city.
Chicago…the heat makes me nauseous and i love playing in the snow with my kids:-)
Vegas summers all the way…you can’t do so many outdoor things in the snow like golf, bike ride at the lake, etc!!
Cubs baseball would be fun….but still….no thank you to that much Winter! I don’t think I could do it. Def. Vegas!
chicago…..i love all seasons..and i love getting bundled up and hats and scarves..i love log fires and hot drinks…….its all good
Hate the cold where you can’t feel your toes- so I glad I don’t have to use the “snow scrapers” for my windows anymore! I use my seat warmers in Vegas winters so I know I wouldn’t survive too long with Chicago winters anymore!
Love the Warm/Hot of tank tops and shorts-
Overall Vegas heat beats out the cold winters- even with the burning of my flesh when I forget to put up the suncreen in the car window!
When we lived in Texas, our little old house didn’t have a garage. I scrapped the windshield enough times to last me a life time. If I never scrape another window again, it will be fabulous!! YEA Vegas heat!
How about Midwest snow with a little Vegas winter “get-a-way”?!
I’m all about that.
Oh with out a doubt I would take the Vegas heat over the snow. I tell people that all the time and they think I’m nuts. Winters are so long and brutal. I hate driving wondering if I’m going to get stuck, slide off the road or worse, into someone else. I hate wearing layers upon layers just to not go numb. Give me the heat when all I have to worry about is the air conditioning or jumping in a pool. I wouldn’t mind doing the snow bird thing. Lots of people do it here too. May through November here – December through April in Vegas would be ideal.
Most of the people that said Vegas actually live here. Obviously we got used to it & know how great we’ve got it!
Oh, I would pick Chicago in a heartbeat, but I live in Michigan, so that’s probably why. I just adore the changing of the seasons and how as soon as you get sick of one, the next one is coming and there is something else new to get all excited about. I love it. Watching the landscape change from summer splendor to fall beauty to winter wonderland to spring. Oh, its awesome. I always am in wonder of God’s handiwork.
